Thumps sound like thumps instead of being bloated boomy indistinct things. Then I started playing with DIRAC the sound got cleaner and the base got a LOT more controlled.
DIRAC LIVE HARDWARE FULL
Limiting the the base extension of my full range speakers into the lower frequencies where they had previously struggled probably gave me the the best gains in base sound.but things sounded just a tad flat to what I was used to with the vocals loosing precendence that I like. I can now limit the base extension in my full range speakers and I can select different types of crossovers, different slopes and precisely control frequency roll off. The DDRC-24 allows me to control the cross over between full range electrostatic speakers with integrated woofers and a separate box subwoofer with some finese.
DIRAC LIVE HARDWARE UPGRADE
The MiniDSP does not support new DIRAC base management feature and I doubt it ever will but may upgrade to more powerful unit in the future that does. I am now using DIRAC Live 3 on a Minidsp DDRC-24. I like using a PC rather than a fixed box media server as it has more flexibility. (Crossover frequency tunable with a single fixed cross over slopes and adjustable volume) But no way to limit base extension in main full range speakers. Music files were fed to the power amp by way of Meridian DAC and Accoustic Research pre amp and passively split to sub woofer with a basic inbuilt tunable cross over. I was previously using REW created room correction filters loaded into Equaliser APO on my Windows PC music server and was very pleased with the sound. What other factors or options should i consider? I also believe that the DL software is non transferable so i could not resell it later. With the software plugin i manually blend in the sub using REW and then let DL do its thing on the full spectrum as if it were a 2.0 setup.Ī con to the DDRC-24 is that its more clutter on my desk and the ADC/DAC quality is questionable and even if it was great, its two more conversions than i currently use in my setup.
DIRAC LIVE HARDWARE PRO
Another pro would be that it could run a dedicated subwoofer channel and management. The pros would be that its more flexible in the sense it would work with different sources and i could move it to other setups. I'm leaning toward pulling that $350 trigger, but before so want to think through my options.įor $400 i could get a MiniDSP DDRC-24. I ran it as a plugin in SoundSource (systemwide) and as a plugin in Audirvana with great results. I've run through the trial period of Dirac Live 2.0 software and am very impressed. It's connected to my computer via USB, the computer is my only source. I'm running a 2.1 setup in my office with a NAD 3045 integrated amp.
